Club/Organisation: North Tyneside Disability Forum

Nominated: Richard Cheshire

Role: Volunteer and mentor

Richard is new to volunteering at the North Tyneside Disability Forum but has already had a positive impact on getting people with disabilities participating in sport and physical activity. He is a great believer that disability shouldn’t mean inability and he is currently coaching the “look after yourself” group of older disabled people working toward Couch to 5K, with the end goal of achieving a parkrun with his group of keen participants.

Liz Turnbull, lead community development manager at NTDE said, “Richard is an inspiration to everyone he meets. As a volunteer and mentor, he gives his time to encouraging others and providing opportunities for people to participate in activity. And the team would like to say a very big thank you to Richard for his continued hard work and dedication.”

Richard said, “Giving people more time and moving the goal posts means we can make activity more inclusive. It’s brilliant and unexpected to receive this thank you and we are more determined than ever to take part in the Rising Sun parkrun once we all reach our 5k target.”
