Students from Newcastle, Sunderland, North Tyneside and South Tyneside came together for the School Games Inclusive Tennis competition held at Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis & Wellness Centre. The competition, in partnership with the Wanderers Association saw each pupil take part in numerous tennis challenges and games, with each point scored being vital in helping their team to achieve the highest score possible.
The competition was a great success thanks to not only the pupils taking part who tried their best and showcased high levels of both sportsmanship and enjoyment throughout the day; but to the school staff who came along to assist, and the staff employed at the centre as well. Everyone ensured all the children were able to get the most out of the day by offering support and encouragement, helping the competition to run smoothly.
Once all the pupils had completed their challenges and games the individual team scores were counted to determine where each school placed. In what was a very close contest three eventual winners were declared, with Monkton Junior School achieving first place, Throckley Primary School coming second and Byker Primary School securing third place. Every pupil who took part should be extremely proud of how they performed and conducted themselves throughout the competition, and we look forward to seeing them at other events in the future.
We would also like to say a huge thank you to our current work placement student, Georgia Knaggs who is in her second year at Northumbria University studying Sport Management. It was great having her helping at the competition, where she displayed incredible enthusiasm and emotional intelligence when assisting the pupils in various challenges. This helped the students to really engage and enjoy their time at the competition, and we are very grateful to Georgia for giving up her time to help.
