National award for 3 Northumberland badminton players

The English Badminton Award is presented for longstanding exceptional services to badminton in England.

At a recent awards ceremony, three of the county’s longest serving badminton volunteers received an award to recognise all that they have done for badminton in Northumberland.

Alison O’Dell, a member of Badminton England’s Board of Directors, traveled up from the Midlands to present the awards in front of representatives from the clubs and other members of the management committee.

The awards were presented to:
Dennis Gray – current Chairman
Mike Waterfield – current Registration Secretary, Assistant Secretary and DBS verifier
Julie Brown – current Treasurer

NBA Secretary Norma Waterfield, who nominated the three successful recipients said, “I was delighted to learn that my three nominations were successful.  Dennis, Julie and my husband Mike have all done so much for badminton over a long period of time.  They all thoroughly deserve their award.”

Norma herself received the English Badminton Award in 2010, along with current NBA Vice Chairman Steve Abbott.  In previous years, current President Bob Pearson, former President Ian Ferguson, and former Coaching Secretary Walter Arkley, who sadly passed away recently, also received the same award.
