In a bid to find the most competitive, and perhaps most fun, workplace in Tyne & Wear, eleven company teams took part in the Summer Active Workplace Games.
The companies came from across Tyne & Wear to take part in twelve different sporting challenges including badminton, handball, golf and boot camp. In a closely fought competition, it was the team from Virgin Money who claimed victory, closely followed by runner up teams from the Foundation of Light and Barclays.
Charlotte Carr from the Health Education North East team said, "It's a really good fun evening. It's great for team building and boosting staff morale. We can also see things like reduced sickness levels in the workplace from having a more active workforce. We all had a great time at the Games and are looking forward to the next one."
The Games were organised by Tyne & Wear Sport to provide companies with a way to encourage their employees to get active in a fun competition that also has very positive benefits for the businesses.
Craig Hodgson from Tyne & Wear Sport said, "“A healthy and happy workforce is proven to increase productivity and reduce absenteeism. Our Active Workplace Games is a great way to bring companies together to compete in a friendly and enjoyable environment in a range of different physical activities. Congratulations goes to all of the participants, they all really embraced the event and demonstrated great team spirit and sportsmanship throughout the evening.”
The teams competing were: Barclays, Egger, Elanders, Foundation of Light, Health Education North East, Newcastle Falcons, NBS, Northumbria Coalition Against Crime, Stagecoach, Tyneside Mind and Virgin Money.
