Tyneside Gymnastics Club

Inspirational coach Emma Crowe and next generation coach Rachel Sykes were nominated by head coach Helen Gray at Tyneside Gymnastics Club to receive the #PassOnYourPassion baton.

Helen said she had nominated Emma because: "Emma is an inspirational coach to all the gymnasts in our club. She has a special energy which she brings to gymnastics ensuring all the children enjoy themselves and achieve their goals.  Emma always has time for everyone in the gym, with a smile on her face, no matter how much pressure she is under with her coaching. Emma coaches many different disciplines of gymnastics, however she is the Head Coach of our TeamGym discipline. This is one of the other reasons we have nominated her.

"Over the last few years TeamGym has grown and grown to a level which we could never have expected thanks to Emma. Emma became Head Coach in 2013 and now coaches nearly 80 gymnasts in this discipline alone.  She caters for all abilities to allow the children to compete in local and national competitions. Emma has brought some of the gymnasts on to enable them the opportunity to compete and to qualify for British Championships at Meadowbank. She has taken teams to these Qualifiers since 2013 and each year at least one team qualifies for the finals which are held at The Echo Arena Liverpool. This year so far has been amazing for Emma, where she has managed to get six of our gymnasts through the Great Britain Zonal process. The achievements and efforts of Emma have been exceptional for our club and gymnastics in the North Region."

Emma is passing her passion for coaching on to 16-year-old Rachel Sykes who joined the club seven years ago. Helen told us a little more about Rachel: "Rachel has qualified to a level 1 coach and is currently hoping to move to her level 2.  At only 16 years old she has volunteered for many years helping our beginner and novice squad develop. Not only has she volunteered coaching, but she has taken a lead role in some of our classes with preparation and leadership. Rachel has a great rapport with the gymnasts and the children love it when she coaches. With her volunteering she has enabled many additional children to participate in the sport.  Her skills and coaching techniques are outstanding for a 16 year old and we are excited to see how she will develop going forward."

We will now be working with both Emma and Rachel to support them to achieve their goals in coaching and personal development.
