If you have a disability and are looking to get involved in sport but don't know where your nearest club is, you can locate it by using our North East Club Finder (please select 'disability sport' under the relevant drop down, enter your postcode and a search radius, prior to clicking 'find my club or activity’ to find disability focused clubs). Additionally, some of the other clubs listed under the different sports may also be able to cater for people with disabilities, although you would need to check with each provider.
If you require further information about disability sport, please visit our page with contacts of National Disability Sport Organisations.
As well as our Club Finder, there is a statutory duty on every local authority in England to produce a Local Offer which sets out the details of all services available to children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities in that area. A link to the relevant webpage for each of our local authorities is provided below:
Further information about disability sport is available by visiting the English Federation of Disability Sport website. In addition, the Child Protection in Sport Unit has produced information for safeguarding deaf and disabled children in sport, please click on this link to view.
We also co-ordinate and chair the Tyne & Wear Disability Sport Forum, which was established in 2007. The terms of reference for the group can be downloaded here.
