assistant director - INACTIVITY & INCLUSION

My role involves leading on, and overseeing, projects and programmes that aim to get more people more active in sport and physical activity.  I work closely with, and support, staff that lead on initiatives such as the School Games, Tyne & Wear PE and School Sport Alliance, Active Workplace and our role in relation to the Primary PE and Sport Premium.

A large focus of my work is to try to increase the number of opportunities available for inactive people to become more physically active, and leading on projects and programmes that try to encourage and enable more people from under-represented groups to take part in physical activity and sport.  My remit also involves leading our work in relation to safeguarding children and young people in sport/physical activity and ensuring that there is better engagement of sport and physical activity with wider social and economic agendas, including health.

My previous jobs in physical activity and sport include working for Derwentside District Council (now Durham County Council) and County Durham Sport.  I joined Tyne & Wear Sport back in 2007.

I have been interested in sport from a very young age, particularly football, which I still play regularly now for a local team, and I also enjoy playing golf. I am quite a keen runner and have completed the Great North Run many times. I have a real passion for trying to encourage people to be more active, and experience the benefits, hence I really enjoy working in the leisure sector.
