assistant director - participation, equity & safeguarding

My role involves leading on, and overseeing, projects and programmes that aim to get more people more active in sport and physical activity.  I work closely with, and support, staff that lead on initiatives such as Sportivate, School Games, Active Workplace and our role in relation to the Primary PE and Sport Premium.  I also lead on projects and programmes that are focused on equity and trying to engage more under-represented groups in sport, as well as our work in relation to safeguarding children and young people in sport. My remit also involves ensuring that there is full engagement of sport and physical activity with wider social and economic agendas, including health.

My previous jobs include working for Derwentside District Council in sports development and physical activity roles, and I have also worked for County Durham Sport.  I joined Tyne & Wear Sport in 2007.

I have been interested in sport from a very young age, particularly football, which I still play regularly now for a local team, and I also enjoy playing golf. I am quite a keen runner and have completed the Great North Run many times. I have a real passion for sport and trying to encourage people to be more active, and hence I really enjoy working in the leisure sector.
