Club: Newcastle United Foundation
Nominated: Alex Pearson
Role: Volunteer Coach
Alex is a volunteer coach with the Newcastle United Foundation, working within the Foundation’s ‘Disability Football For All’ project on two of its current programmes. Alex, who himself has sight loss, is determined to help other disabled people access football and get as much enjoyment out of it as what he does.
Alex’s passion for football is clear for all to see when he’s coaching. Whether he’s leading a whole group exercise or working with individual participants, Alex makes the content he’s delivering exciting and engaging. Participants often comment on how much they enjoy working with him and how he helps them improve as football players.
Mark Daglish, Disability Football Development Officer at the Foundation, said “Alex has been a pleasure to work with since he started volunteering at the Foundation two years ago. We’ve been delighted to see the progress he’s made in this time, in which he’s successfully completed both his FA Level 1 Certificate and Coaching Disabled Footballers Award Level 1.
Alex’s dedication and enthusiasm for football is fantastic and both groups he coaches love having him at their sessions. A highlight of each session is Alex’s motivational pre-session speech and his post-session awards, both of which are something that everyone who takes part always look forward to!”
