Tyne & Wear Safeguarding in Sport Group
The Tyne & Wear Sport partnership established a 'Safeguarding in Sport Group' in March 2007.
1. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The Tyne & Wear Safeguarding in Sport Group has the following aim:
- To help create a safer environment for children, young people and vulnerable adults to participate in sport and physical activity in Tyne & Wear through bringing together local sports organisations and promoting the adoption and implementation of effective safeguarding measures.
The objectives of the group are:
- To assist the partnership and its partner members to meet the requirements of the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit’s (CPSU) ‘Standards for Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport’.
- To agree and publish minimum safeguarding standards for the delivery of sport and physical activity within the Tyne & Wear Sport Partnership.
- To provide support and advice in relation to safeguarding issues, including the development of clear and concise child protection policies and procedures.
- To promote and share examples of good practice across the partnership, and challenge practice that is harmful to children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- To improve communication between the relevant agencies and individuals, and ensure a co-ordinated and effective approach to safeguarding.
- To develop and promote training opportunities.
- To work to resolve, or seek clarification over, other safeguarding issues/queries that are highlighted by members of the group.
2. MEMBERSHIP
Membership of the group will consist of representatives from the following:
- The Tyne & Wear Sport Core Team.
- Each of the 5 Local Authorities.
- The School Sport Partnerships.
- The University of Northumbria.
- Gateshead College.
- The National Governing Bodies of Sport.
- Sports Coach UK.
- The Voluntary Sector.
Representatives of other organisations may be invited to attend the meetings following agreement from the group.
