TWS Partnership Board Statement
The Tyne & Wear Sport partnership is committed to making sport and physical activity a safer place for children, young people and vulnerable adults to participate in. We aim to raise awareness and support those working in sport and physical activity, giving them knowledge and guidance of what they need to do to protect these vulnerable groups and minimise avoidable risks.
Working with coaches, clubs and volunteers, the Tyne & Wear Sport Partnership will educate and support those delivering activity to ensure that children, young people and vulnerable adults can enjoy and get the very best from their involvement in sport and physical activity in Tyne & Wear.
We will work closely with the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children’s Child Protection in Sport Unit to ensure that the necessary standards are in place to help create a safe sporting environment for children, young people and vulnerable adults in order to protect them from harm.
The Tyne & Wear Sport partnership is committed to promoting the safety and welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults engaged in sporting activities locally and aims to:
- Meet the requirements of the Standards for Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport (CPSU 2002)
- Develop a Safeguarding and Protecting Working Group
- Implement and demonstrate best safeguarding practice when staff, volunteers or others are providing services, activities and programmes for children, young people and vulnerable adults
- Work with partners to establish and implement agreed, consistent minimum safeguarding standards for sports activities locally
- Work with individuals and organisations that exist to provide services for children, young people and vulnerable adults to effectively address safeguarding requirements
- Maximise its influence to promote safeguarding practice and principles within the wider partnerships’ roles and relationships
The Strategic Board fully endorses these aims, and supports the Tyne & Wear Sport partnership in this important area of work.
