Triathlon
The first modern long-distance triathlon event was the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon. It included a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run.
The sport made its debut on the Olympic program at the Sydney Games in 2000 over the Olympic distance (1500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run).
British Triathlon is now promoting opportunities that disabled athletes have to participate and compete in the sport of triathlon. A classification system has been developed to ensure that disabled triathletes can compete and participate in triathlons throughout the country. Over 150 races throughout the country have been designated as being fully inclusive for disabled athletes. For more information see the poster below.
