Triple Triumph for Eagles Community Foundation

The Newcastle Eagles Community Foundation has celebrated three of its clubs achieving Clubmark accreditation all in the same day.

The three clubs are Birtley Basketball Club, South Tyneside Basketball Club and Westgate Hoopstars.

England Basketball's Clubmark Assessor, Craig Costello stated: "The work being done by the Eagles Community Foundation is outstanding. The achievement of these three clubs achieving Clubmark highlights the work they have done to increase basketball participation in and around Newcastle. Each of the three clubs in question put forward an excellent application and all are doing a fantastic job of attracting youngsters to their clubs."

Susan Hunter from the Eagles Community Foundation said: "The work that the Eagles Community Foundation has done has been paramount to introducing youngsters to the game thus increasing EB membership on a yearly basis. With the growth in participation this has seen a growth in the number of clubs that we run. After achieving 5-star accreditation for Newcastle Eagles last year, this has been the next push for all of our junior clubs to receive Clubmark in their own right. For 3 clubs to receive Clubmark on the same day was a great achievement. We will be looking for 2 more clubs to achieve this before the start of next season."

Ian MacLeod, head coach of South Tyneside Basketball club said: "The club has gone from strength to strength in its first two years of existence. Both on and off the court the players now have a club to be proud of. Attaining Clubmark and 3-star accreditation is a fine reward for all the hard work our volunteer coaches have put in. Hopefully, the club can continue to grow and continue to produce high quality basketball players while remaining an integral part of the South Tyneside community."

Paul Honour of Birtley Basketball Club stated: "To have achieved 3-star accreditation and Clubmark in less than three years shows the quality of our programme in developing basketball players, coaching staff and game officials. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone connected to the club and to the support that we receive from the Eagles's Community Foundation. Our club really is a Club for All...our youngest registered and England Basketball licensed player is just four years old, our oldest is in his 50s!"
