Can you host a Sport Relief Mile?

Published 09 October 2009

Sport Relief is looking for volunteers to help make sure that the latest campaign gets off to a flying start.

The charity event, which launches in January 2010, is focused around the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile which aims to get young and old exercising. On Sunday 21 March there will be around 350 Mile events happening in towns, cities and villages across the UK, and a huge 90% of them will be organised by volunteer event organisers.

Sport Relief is on the lookout for motivated people with the skills and experience to organise a Mile event for their town. Organising a Mile event isn’t difficult but there are a few minimum requirements:

The Sport Relief Events team will be on hand to support you from the initial planning to the actual event. They will provide you with your own event webpage to help promote your event, promotional and event materials, an organiser’s kit and a dedicated member of the team to call on whenever you need to.

Not only is organising a Sport Relief Mile great fun, it’s also a great opportunity to get more people in your community active, showcase your venue, bring local organisations in your community together, raise the profile of your organisation and gain amazing publicity by being part of a huge national campaign.

Comic Relief first launched Sport Relief in 2002 and four campaigns later over 1.25 million people have taken part and over £75 million has been raised. That money helps poor and disadvantaged people turn their lives around, both at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
