DSE North East Regional Mini Games
The first DSE North East Regional Mini Games, organised by North Tyneside Council, Newcastle City Council, South Tyneside Council and Gateshead Council, took place on Thursday 22 May at Gateshead Stadium. The event, which is for young people aged between 8 and 11 years old, was a considerable success, attracting almost 100 participants.
A range of activities were on offer, including track and field athletics, boccia, polybat, new age kurling and target cricket.
Stephen Miller, a paralympic athlete who has won three gold medals for Great Britain, was in attendance. He commented, "There is no doubt these children will be our stars of the future. It's fantastic to see nearly a hundred children from across the region taking part in disability sports and I'm looking forward to seeing one or two of the competitors' names heading to the Paralympic Games in a few years."
