Equality Standard

Tyne & Wear Sport successfully achieved the Foundation Level of 'The Equality Standard - A Framework for Sport' in July 2007.

The standard is a framework for assisting sports organisations to widen access and reduce inequalities in sport and physical activity from under represented individuals, groups and communities; assisting organisations to develop structures and processes; and assess performance to ensure a continuous improvement approach to equality.

Ian Simon, Executive Director, stated: "I am delighted that the partnership has achieved the Foundation Level of the Equality Standard. This demonstrates our commitment to engaging, involving, promoting and developing people from all sectors in society as athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and leaders in sport. Achieving this accreditation has given us the opportunity to check and challenge our current practices to ensure that we are open to, and are successfully promoting sport to, all members of the community."
