Job Title: Netball Development Officer - North East

I work for England Netball as a Netball Development Officer for the North East. As part of my role I spend two days working in the Tyne and Wear area. My aim is to increase knowledge, opportunities and accessibility of Netball in the North East. I work in line with England Netball’s 10-1-1 vision which aspires to establish Netball as a top 10 participation sport in England, to establish Netball as the 1st choice for women and girls and to achieve and maintain Number 1 World ranking status.

As part of my role I work towards increasing participation through establishing links between schools and clubs. Also geared towards increasing participation I set up and support Back2Netball programmes in the area, aimed at women who once had a love for the sport and want to get back into playing Netball, or for women who are keen to take up Netball as a new hobby. I also support local clubs to help them achieve their goals in areas such as coaching and officiating and to offer help to them to achieve wider club development.

This role is my first job in sport, prior to this I worked as a retail manager. I have, however, had a keen interest in sport and Netball in particular from a young age. I played for North Durham and South Tyneside U16 County squad whiles at school and continued this love for the game through my education at Durham Sixth form Centre. Whilst studying Sport and Exercise Science at YorkSt JohnUniversity I played for the University’s 1st team and became club captain in my 3rd year. Most recently I graduated from Northumbria University gaining an MSc in Sports Management. I hope my sporting background, education and my knowledge and passion for Netball will stand me in good stead to achieve my goals in developing Netball in the North East.
