New Foundation Course in Basketball Coaching
England Basketball has launched a pre-Level One course that introduces the basics of the game to people with little or no experience in basketball. The Foundation Course in Coaching Award is an ideal entry for parents and young people wanting an introduction into coaching basketball.
The Foundation Course is now ready to roll out and be presented. The course is delivered over nine hours of contact time with the tutor, with three hours of reading outside the course. As most participants will have little basketball background, the ideal format will be to run the course over three sessions of three hours each; for example three Tuesday nights from 6.30 – 9.30pm, or perhaps three Sunday afternoons from 3 – 6pm. Breaking up the course will give the participants time to digest the content of each section more thoroughly, and will help reduce ‘information overload’.
There course cost is £20 per participant, with a recommended Tutor cost of £120 (plus travel). The minimum number of participants for this course is 10, with a maximum of 20.
Further details of the course are available from the England Basketball website and click on the Foundation Course in Coaching.
The application form to run all courses is on this page also. Scroll down to the section ‘Organising a Course’ and click on ‘Course Application Form’, complete the form and then send to England Basketball. For the initial round of Foundation Courses (i.e. starting in April), please give four weeks notice of intended dates.
