Newcomers rise to the occasion at the Active Workplace Summer Games
The latest Active Workplace Games came to a thrilling end with a shock victory for newcomers, Barclays.
The games organised by Tyne & Wear Sport were held at Kenton School, Newcastle on Thursday 16 June 2016 and the companies participating included two Barclay’s teams, Proctor & Gamble, NHS Business Services Authority, Gentoo, Akzonobel, Johnson Controls and Northumberland Tyne & Wear NHS. The teams competed in a range of challenges including football, netball and boxing. The runners up were previous winners Johnson Controls.
Angela Johnson from Akzo Nobel said, "We wanted to promote health and well-being for employees and encourage team building. We've had a really good time at the Games and enjoyed all of the activities. The team now want to come back and do another one."
Jasmine Danby, workplace activity manager at Tyne & Wear Sport said, “The team spirit was fantastic from all participants and it was a great achievement for Barclays to win their first ever Active Workplace Games.
“Research shows that a more active workplace is a more productive one and our Active Workplace Games provides your company with opportunities to involve your staff in exciting, high quality events which promote an active lifestyle. Organisations taking part also use them as a means for team building and increasing staff engagement, which in turn can reduce absenteeism, boost staff morale and increase productivity.”
Many working people struggle with the access to sporting participation due to their committed working regime. The Active Workplace programme enables the opportunity for people to participate in sport in a fun but also competitive environment.
